Lucas DeMonte (he/him/his) M.Ed., Ed.S. is a queer trans man pursuing his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Northern Illinois University, who recently graduated with his Mental Health Counseling master’s from the University of Florida. Lucas seeks to provide an affirming space, especially for folks at various intersections of identity, who have experienced systemic otherness, trauma, and oppression.
Lucas centers a trauma focused, relational-cultural lens to build a meaningful, culturally-responsive therapeutic relationship. He incorporates psychoeducation, challenge by choice/consent, and active coping strategies for clients to employ outside of the therapeutic setting. Outside of work, Lucas plays his musical instruments, accidentally reads multiple books simultaneously, tends to his (too many) plants, and hikes with his deaf pit-mix, Bo Peep.
